Mosquitoes are vector for transmitting the important diseases like malaria, dengue, Zika, filariasis, yellow fever, West Nile fever, Japanese encephalitis and other forms of encephalitis. All these diseases presence are in more than 100 countries and population living there is at risk of infection. Different types of vector control strategies are available like physical, chemical, biological, mechanical and environmental methods. The mosquitoes breed at habitats like pots/containers (domestic water storage), used tyres, discarded food and beverage containers, blocked gutters and construction sites. So, mosquitoes eggs at breeding sites must be destroy to reduce of its larval and adult densities.

ICEENI had selected Larviciding (chemical control strategy) to combat mosquitoes in different parts of the world. Larvicides aim larvae in the breeding sites and prevent it converting into adult mosquitoes. Thus, Larviciding of breeding sites can reduce the adult mosquito population in the affected areas. They are applied as liquid or granular forms with the help of backpack sprayers and by hand respectively. The WHO had recommended the following larvicides for use to reduce mosquito population: Diflubenzuron, Methoprene, Novaluron, Chlorpyrifos, Fenthion, Pyriproxyfen, Pirimphos-methyl and Temephos. ICEENI will select to use the above larvicides as per the market availability in local areas.

ICEENI role include ensuring safe and effective use of larvicides, educating people about the benefits of larviciding, training larviciding teams, procuring larviciding and its equipment and evaluating spraying activities.
